So everyone is going Queenie bonkers this week – so Sport-locker.net thought it was only fair to join the party, albeit with a sporting twist of course!
Because today, thanks to research commissioned by the EDF Energy London Eye we can reveal England winning the World Cup in 1966 has been voted the most iconic moment since the Queen’s Coronation in 1952.
In celebration of the survey’s outcome, the London Eye has transformed one of its 32 capsules to bring back to life the magic of England’s victory in 1966.
The bespoke capsule will be complete with 1966 football memorabilia including a replica of the Jules Rimet Trophy, the team’s gleaming medals as well as the England’s mascot ‘World Cup Willie’ which will transport guests back to this triumphant moment.
Visitors to the London Eye between Saturday 26th May to Tuesday 5th June will have a chance to experience a rotation in the one off 1966 World Cup bespoke capsule.
Other moments narrowly missing out on the top spot were Live Aid 1985, Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s wedding and the Queen’s Coronation.
However, this is not all. The London Eye will also have a British street party theme on site over the bank holiday weekend with decorations and themed musical dance performances bringing to life Her Majesty’s reigning years. Union Jack bunting and flags will add to the patriotic theme, as well as the opportunity to spot a few familiar look-a-likey faces from the past six decades, whilst younger visitors will be offered a free crown or flag.
In addition, visitors to the London Eye on Sunday 3rd June will have one of the best views of the Thames Diamond Jubilee pageant that will include a flotilla of over one thousand boats lead by Her Majesty The Queen herself. Guests will also be able to enjoy onsite photo opportunities and drink stalls, making the London Eye landscape the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy the long Diamond Jubilee weekend.
For those who are yet to visit the EDF Energy London Eye in 2012, they will find a new in-capsule experience aboard the London Eye. Every capsule now features a state of the art Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 device, displaying bespoke content, which during the Diamond Jubilee period, will host additional information about landmarks specific to the Queen’s 60 year reign. The interactive touch screen guides enhance the guest’s experience as they take in the spectacular views from the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel.
