Sport-locker.net preview the Champions League match between Chelsea and Benfica at Stamford Bridge tonight…
THE REJUVENATION OF CHELSEA UNDER DI MATTEO
When Roberto Di Matteo took over at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were reportedly in disarray following the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas. Castrol EDGE Performance data shows that the Italian has rejuvenated the Blues since his appointment. So far, he has won 75% of his games, which is better than all other Chelsea managers under Roman Abramovich.
This improvement is mirrored by the performances of Fernando Torres. Under André Villas-Boas, the Spaniard scored only four goals in 31 appearances at a depressing average of a goal every 474 minutes.
Since Di Matteo has taken over, Torres has 3 goals and 4 assists from 7 games, meaning he has been involved in a goal every 74 minutes.
STURRIDGE AND GAITAN GO HEAD-TO-HEAD
Daniel Sturridge and Nicolas Gaitán have both received plaudits this season, and the latter’s performances have reportedly made him a target for Manchester United.
Castrol EDGE Performance data shows that the dynamic Gaitán has created 67 chances this season – more than double the number of Sturridge (29).
Sturridge, however, has been the more clinical striker. His shooting accuracy (52.77%) is superior to Gaitan’s (28.2%) and this has resulted in him ten goals compared to Gaitain’s three.
