Pearl Izumi launches new cycling ride collection for Spring/Summer 2014

Nothing says summer cycling quite like a brand new wardrobe full of lycra and spandex so pricked its ears when it heard that Colorado-based Pearl Izumi is launching its new Spring/Summer 2014 Ride Apparel and Footwear Collection.

The new ride apparel collection is now available and features updated styles and colour-ways with improved construction and fit whilst the Ride Footwear Collection sees Pearl Izumi bring back the Boa retention system to their cycling footwear 10 years after first introducing this technology to the bike market.

2014 Ride Apparel Collection

For 2014, Pearl Izumi has re-designed their baselayer collection with a cycling-specific anatomic fit and a unique rotated sleeve construction that contours the body perfectly when in the riding position.

Pearl Izumi’s Transfer fabric with Minerale® combines with stretch panels around the shoulders to deliver next-to-skin comfort and maximum moisture transfer. Pearl Izumi’s baselayer range starts at £29.99 SRP with the Transfer Lite Sleeveless Baselayer now featuring a mesh construction for maximum breathability in hot conditions.

Following many years of Research & Development in collaboration with their sponsored UCI Pro-Tour Teams such as BMC Racing Team, Pearl Izumi are launching a new P.R.O. Anatomic 1:1 Chamois® to replace their former P.R.O. Seamless 4D Chamois®. Featuring a 3-layered inverse variable Density Padding of 4 to 13mm, the P.R.O. Anatomic 1:1 Chamois® still offers the seamless surface and 4D anatomic shape of its predecessor but with improved comfort thanks to its reverse construction and gradual transition from high to low density padding.

This new chamois built from the top down is available in the new Men’s P.R.O. Leader Bib-Short (£129.99 SRP) and Men’s P.R.O. In-R-Cool® Bib-Short (£119.99 SRP).

Other brand new products for 2014 include the Elite Long Sleeve Jersey for men (£79.99 SRP) and Symphony Long Sleeve Jersey for women (£59.99 SRP) that both feature Pearl Izumi’s Elite Transfer In-R-Cool® fabric with Icefil® for sweat activated cooling technology combined with UPF 50+ sun protection for superior comfort in hot conditions and added
coverage in cooler weather.

The Elite Range also sees the introduction of the Men’s Elite Semi-Form Jersey (£59.99 SRP) which features a looser fit around the waist for the larger built riders looking for comfort without compromising on fabric performance. The increased popularity of Pearl Izumi’s Elite Drop Tail Bib Short featuring a women-specific fit combined with a convenient drop tail design has prompted the brand to offer it in a Limited Colour Option (£99.99 SRP) with its matching Elite Ltd Jersey (£69.99 SRP).

In 2004, Pearl Izumi introduced the first cycling shoe featuring a Boa closure system with the Vaper. Ten years later, Pearl Izumi re-introduces the Boa closure in its cycling footwear with two new road models featuring a unique Boa reel instep construction that conforms to the foot equally from both sides and secures the heel hold for maximum pedalling efficiency.

At only 245gr (size 43), the feather light P.R.O. Leader II shoe, built on the same last and using the same technical and lightweight upper as the Octane SL III shoe, now features the precision Boa retention system combined with a forefoot Velcroclosure for optimum foot hold. The P.R.O. Leader comes with Octane Grade Uni-
Directional Carbon sole with concaveconstruction for ultra-low 6.5mm stack height and maximum stiffness.

The combination of Pearl Izumi’s unique Power-Web upper construction and 1:1 Insole System which gives independent left and right arch and forefoot varus support provides a semi-custom fit level of comfort (available in Black/White colour way and full sizes only, £229.99 SRP).

Aimed at the less competitive riders, the Race Road III (£119.99 SRP) derives from the P.R.O. Leader with the same Bi-Directional closure construction featuring the Boa retention system and forefoot Velcro closure but with a Select Grade Nylon Composite Fibre sole with 7.0mm stack height for improved comfort.

The versatile Race Road III also features an EVA foam and Rubber heel bumper for durability and walking comfort along with dual SPD and SPD-SL cleat compatibility making it ideal as both a racing and commuting shoe.

Finally, the entry-level Select Road shoe offers incredible performance and aesthetics for an affordable price (£89.99 SRP) with handy features such as its Rubber Heel Bumper for walking performance, its dual cleat compatibility and comfortable Velcro closure system and Nylon Composite Fibre Sole.
