The Chance 2012: Global Finals Day 1

The search for football’s next best youngster steps up this week, as Nike’s The Chance campaign reaches its climax at the final stages in Barcelona.

And can today bring you some exclusive content!

In the searing Spainish heat, the Final of Nike’s The Chance got under way at Barcelona’s impressive training ground yesterday.

For the 100 finalists flown in from all four corners of the world, this was the start of a weeklong journey that each one of them hopes will change their lives.

With the finalists split into groups, the session began with ball work as the coaches assessed the players’ control and passing. “If Pep Guardiola says that the first thing he looks for in a player is that ability to pass, then that is good enough for me,” says Jimmy Gilligan, head coach at the Nike Academy.

For the youngsters, the heat must have been a factor but they continued to impress as the session went up a gear, with intense drills based on retaining possession, something cherished by the club hosting this incredible event.

Following a hard morning session, the finalists were later joined by several members of Barcelona’s squad – including Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets – who joined in the session before offering their own tips and advice.
