A British man has been announced as the latest winner in a unique competition to win a once in a lifetime trip to Brazil for the World Cup 2014, Sport-locker.net can reveal.
Darren Hallsworth, of Rossendale, East Lancs., took part in an interactive Europe-wide contest called ContiRioKick and was yesterday announced as the latest lucky player to win tickets to the final and a trip to Rio.
ContiRioKick is a smartphone app from World Cup sponsor Continental Tyres, where players kick a virtual ball to each other. The longer the pass chain, the more points scored.
Computer programmer Darren, 40, said: “I knew I was doing well at the game, but I couldn’t believe it when I won.
“I live and breathe football, so getting to go to the World Cup is a dream come true.
“I’m not getting my hopes too high given recent history, but would be the icing on the cake if England make it to the final and recreate the glory of 1966.
“I can’t wait to see the sights of Brazil while I am there. It’s going to be an amazing experience. I feel on top of the world.”
ContiRioKick was launched in July, and there have already been more than half a million virtual ‘kicks’ made by users.
Darren is one of ten winners in total, with one being picked every month until April next year. He is allowed to take one person with him on the trip and has chosen best pal Danny Goodwin, also from Rossendale.
There is still time to play the game and win tickets to the World Cup in Rio next summer. The app is reset every month, giving everyone a fair chance to win.
