NFL Preview: St Louis Rams v New England Patriots

It’s not often American football is featured on Sport-locker.net but we’re absolutely buzzing about the matchup between St Louis Rams and New England Patriots at Wembley on Sunday!

So much so, that we went down to Nike Town, London earlier this week after it was turned into the city’s number one location for all things NFL.

And we were lucky enough to catch up with Rams legends Marshall Faulk, Jackie Starr and Tory Holt – on top of gawping at a routine from the Rams’ cheerleaders… (tough job. Maybe.)

The showcase game in London has become a hugely popular event and Faulk was pleased to be back:

“I’ve been here before its fun, there’s a lot of culture here. I came last year for the game and I was impressed with the fans and how many jerseys, how many people actually have teams that they root for. It was hard to find a seat without a person wearing a jersey! I was impressed at that.”

“I expect a very close and competitive game. You guys are obviously going to see one of our greater quarterbacks in Tom Brady.”

Brady is considered by many to be a potential hall of famer and Slater, who enjoyed an illustrious 20-year career with the Rams organisation, was keen to highlight that being inducted into the hall of fame was ‘the defining moment’ of his career:

“I’ll tell you what it was. When I turned around and looked over my shoulders at the guys that were already in the hall of fame and sitting up there listening to my speech, it was very humbling.

“Some of the greats that as a kid I grew up hearing about and as a pro I watched, that was a very humbling experience to be named with those guys. I’ll never forget that.”

Former wide receiver Holt also offered a little hope that the sport might take off in the UK.

“It’s my first time coming over to London, and it’s been good so far. We played some football earlier today with the kids that went really well. They were really enthusiastic and in tune with what we were trying to teach them.

“They didn’t know a whole lot about American football but that was fine because in terms of knowing the players and the teams, they were really in tune with that which was really good I was impressed.”

Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt and Jackie Slater were speaking at NikeTown London ahead of the NFL International Series this weekend between the St.Louis Rams and New England Patriots.
