Sport-locker.net caught up with Italy and AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo after he joined a host of footballers in customising his own adidas Predator LZ’s with miadidas…
What are your targets for this season?
My target for this season is, of course, to play well and win the championship with AC Milan and to be the best in Italy and in Europe, as well as to continue my adventure with the Italian national football team.
You played for Fiorentina for seven years and now you’re with AC Milan. Was it difficult to change clubs after such a long time?
I was of course sad to leave after such a long time but it’s what I wanted and I’m happy to play for AC Milan who are probably one of the most important teams in Europe.
Are you happy to play closer to your hometown Caravaggio, after so many years spent playing for Fiorentina?
I think it is good for any player to play in an area he’s familiar and comfortable with. I’m fortunate that I’ll get to see my family and friends more often, therefore I’m happy.
Milan football team came second last season: do you think you can win the championship this year?
Despite our slow start, I think that there is still time for us to do well in the Championship this season. There are many good teams in the league like Juventus, Inter, Roma, Napoli, but Milan is a big club and is always expected to challenge for titles.
Which teams would you say are favourite in this season’s Champions League?
In the Champions League Barcelona and Real Madrid are favourites but on our day I believe we can beat anyone. We have a young team with a lot of quality so I think we’ll be competitive in Europe for many years to come.
You played for the Italian national football team at Euro 2012: how was this experience for you?
The experience in Poland and Ukraine was fantastic especially because we almost won the competition but, actually, to be part of an international competition at this level means a lot.
It’s a pity that we lost in the final but I believe that we played beautiful football and Italy made a good impression overall. Playing in the final was a good experience but I’d love to go back in time to play it again. I think we could’ve played better and it would be great to go back and play it once again.
Who do you think are the favourites to win the World Cup in Brazil?
I think the favourites are definitely the teams from South America like Brazil and Argentina. Then in Europe there’s Italy and Germany, which is a powerful team and Spain, who are of course the current World and European Champions.
There’s a long way to go and we have just started, so it’s difficult to predict who can win the tournament, but we definitely have a great team.
